We are officially back from our journey and after 5,000+ miles and 22+ interviews I have…well…I have raised a LOT of questions that I need to look into further. I realized how incredibly intelligent some people are and how quickly they can grasp and analyze a situation, hypothesis or theory and view it from perspectives outside of their own. So, I now need to re-watch all the interviews, read all the books that each one of our interviewees wrote and develop my beliefs and opinions before I demolish or renovate any beliefs I hold. But, here are a few things that I have a “hunch” on at this time:
Absolute truth exists
We are rather limited in our abilities of perceiving this absolute truth
Truth, as we are able to perceive it will remain mostly relative to our experience/culture
Emotions are both incredibly beneficial and crippling in a search for spiritual truth
“Theory Bias” is very real and continually warps our perception of truth
My “belief” is not truth, it’s a path towards truth.
A fundamentalist approach and or “Certainty seeking” in matters of faith are dangerous.
With these “hunches” I begin my reading and reviewing of interviews and eventual formation of a final film and a statement of current belief. If anyone wants to follow along and contribute thoughts I’d be more than happy for you to join me in my reading. Right now I’m reading “The Bible Tells Me So” by Peter Enns, a rather interesting take on the nature of the Bible and how we could approach it.
Please continue to chime in, tell me I’m wrong, call me a heretic, encourage or throw tomatoes. This conversation is important.
